The Illustrated Book Of Pigeons,
(With Standards For Judging) by Robert
Fulton.
A
group of club members gathered at Ken Chatwin's residence on the first two
Saturdays in May along with a couple of evenings during the intervening
week to construct the additional display pens needed under the club's
contract with the PNE. Under the direction of Ken Chatwin the six display
pens needed for the celebrity egg laying contest were built and loaded in
the club trailer.
Thanks goes to Ken Chatwin, George Van Vliet,
Gary Owen, Ernie Silveri, Murray McAllister and David Williamson for the
effort they put in to make the project a success.
This year's
breeding season has been a bit of a mixed bag for club members. As of May
10th, Ken Chatwin and George Van Vliet have each banded around 25 birds
while Owen & Morrison Lofts have 10 Egyptian Swifts and 2 Capuchines.
Keith Biggs has 8 youngsters, Ernie Silveri is doing well, having banded
108 American Rollers. Murray McAllister is having a trying time with his
Modenas with just a single youngster hatched which later died.

B.C. Roller Club
by Kelly Waugh
The BCRC had it's beginnings as the Northwest Roller Flyers
back in the 1940s and took in flyers from British Columbia,
Washington, Oregon and Idaho. Later, when California Roller men
joined up, many other Roller clubs sprouted up all over the U.S. and
the idea to hold a World Cup Roller Fly was conceived in
1991.
The first World Cup Fly was held and was won by a
British Columbian named Monty Neible from Coombs on Vancouver
Island. Nowadays the BCRC is one of many in the United States,
Canada, Denmark, Holland, Ireland, Serbia, South Africa, Australia
and even the islands of Hawaii, which take part in the W/C
Fly.
The BCRC mission statement is "To work towards and
promote the flying of Birmingham Rollers in competition".
Our main activities of the year are the preliminaries to the
World Cup finals fly which takes in all the flyers of the B.C.
Roller Club. The winner of our region goes on to fly the finals
against the qualifying flyers from each world region. It can be an
exciting time and it is good to get around following the judge to
all the region flyers' houses, meet all the guys and learn more
about our hobby/sport. We also have an annual club meeting with all
the members welcome.
Our current directorship consists of
Jack Smith - Regional Director for the W/C Fly, Larry Racine -
Secretary Treasurer and Neville Eccles - Bands Director.
Our
club is not actually affiliated with any other clubs but individual
members are with the National Birmingham Roller Club and the Flying
Oriental Roller Society.
The purpose of my writing this
article for the VP & FPA Newsletter is to let fellow pigeon
fanciers and flyers know the BCRC exists and that WE NEED NEW
MEMBERS, supporting and competing. The first new sign-ups after the
publication of this article will receive 20 free 2009 BCRC roller
size bands. Join in on the camaraderie of the Roller sport, meet
some new friends and keep 'em flying!!!
